About Claire
Claire had a 35-year career in corporate relations that ranged from the nuclear and electricity industries to housing and construction to banking and finance.
Shrugging off any resistance she encountered in the traditionally male-oriented industries she worked in, Claire rose to become Head of Corporate Affairs at the London Stock Exchange and Global Head of Corporate Communications at ING Barings.
While her initial work was in press and public relations, her later appointments took her into many related areas including corporate strategy, marketing and presentation as well as government and investor relations.
Her dynamic personality made her not only a strong departmental leader but also an important force within the boardrooms of the organisations she worked in where she put particular emphasis on reputational issues.
She took the view throughout her career that her employers were the ’story’ and that she should never seek the limelight. She therefore worked hard to foster and develop the communication skills of mainline managers within the organisations she worked for – preferring the outside world to hear both good and bad news from the experts.
Her warm and open character won her many friends and admirers in the over-lapping worlds she worked in – particularly amongst hard-to-please journalists.
